Applying for a Schengen visa in Serbia

For a Schengen visa, first establish your actual destination and your eligibility to apply in Serbia. Searching for the “most convenient consulate” without reference to the itinerary creates problems from the preparation stage.

If you are visiting one country, apply to its consulate. If you are visiting several, apply to the consulate of the main destination by length of stay; if the stays are equal, apply to the country of first entry. Applications are usually made where you lawfully reside, so check your status in Serbia in advance.

• Passport: check its validity and the remaining validity after your planned departure.
• Itinerary and accommodation: dates on tickets, hotel bookings and the application form must match.
• Funding: show the source of funds, not just the account balance.
• Employment or business: documents should explain your current occupation.
• Insurance and photographs: follow the particular consulate's requirements.
• Family travel: prepare separate applications and the children's documents.

An invitation from relatives or a business partner requires a different set of documents from ordinary tourism. Check the list after choosing the destination, rather than buying a universal document package.

The usual application window opens six months before travel and closes at least fifteen days before the trip. Standard processing takes fifteen days; additional checks may extend it to forty-five. Waiting for an appointment adds time.

The basic fee is 90 euros for an adult and 45 euros for a child aged 6–12. Different fees or exemptions apply to certain nationalities and categories; the visa centre's service charge is separate.

A short-stay Schengen visa is not a general work permit. The number of entries, validity period and permitted days are different parameters that must be checked after issuance.
