Renewing residence in Serbia

Updated 17.09.2026 · 2 min read

Start a residence renewal by checking what has changed since the previous application: passport, address, employment, business or family circumstances. Resubmitting an old file without these checks often leads to unnecessary questions.

  1. When to apply
  2. What to check before renewal

  4. How our support works

When to apply

You may apply to renew temporary residence or a single permit no earlier than three months before the current permit expires and no later than its expiry date. Applying on time allows you to remain in Serbia until the administrative procedure is completed.

In practice, it is better to use the start of the available period: this leaves time to translate a new passport, correct information and obtain missing evidence. Do not confuse the final filing day with the point when preparation should begin.

What to check before renewal

  • The validity of the passport and current card, and consistency of personal details.
  • Whether the grounds still exist: employment, an active business, family, property or studies.
  • The residential address and supporting documents.
  • Proof of funds and insurance in the required form.
  • Changes affecting family members whose permits are linked to the main applicant.

If the grounds have changed

Changing employer, closing a sole trader business, buying property or changes in family circumstances may require a different set of documents and separate steps. For a single permit, changing employer involves approval under the prescribed procedure; it is not simply a matter of replacing a company name on the form.

If the grounds no longer exist, do not wait until the card expires to review the situation. We will check the new route and sequence of steps so you can act within your current status.

How our support works

  1. We review previous decisions, the card and current circumstances.
  2. We prepare a short list of what needs updating and what can be reused.
  3. We prepare the application and documents under the current procedure.
  4. We monitor notifications and help respond to requests.
  5. After the decision, we check the card details and plan the next review date.

Renewal, changing grounds and moving to permanent residence are different tasks. If your residence period already makes permanent residence a possibility, it is worth checking that option before another renewal.

RICS Consulting's perspective

Renewal is a useful opportunity to review the family's entire immigration plan. We will check not only the next application, but how it connects to future permanent residence.
