Where we begin
To exchange a licence, a foreign national needs approved residence for at least 6 months or permanent residence, and a valid national driving licence. If the legal conditions are met, no driving or first-aid test is required. We prepare the documents, translation and medical examination for your licence categories.
We check the rules for your status and country of issue, explain when an exchange is needed and which documents you will need.
We bring the translation, medical examination and police application into one plan, prepare you for personal visits and help you communicate in Serbian.
We examine your licence before starting: an approaching expiry date, different category dates or special endorsements may require additional checks.
Documents, timeframes and costs
Are you ready to exchange your licence, or do your documents need checking first? We separate these tasks and create a plan that avoids paying for preparation twice.
The main route for a foreign national with approved residence for at least 6 months or permanent residence. You need a valid national licence, must meet the age and medical requirements and must not be subject to a driving ban. Temporary, probationary and international driving permits cannot be exchanged under this procedure.
Standard support usually starts from 10 days. The specific plan depends on medical appointments, document readiness and the office's work; this is not a statutory deadline for issuing the licence.
RICS servicesFrom €180 for the agreed licence exchange support. We confirm the visits and work included before starting.
Government feesSeparate costs: exchange and licence issuance fees. We prepare the current amount and payment details for your application.
Other costsMedical examination, translation and additional supporting documents depend on what is actually needed. We do not reorder documents that are already suitable.
Your licence is about to expire, your surname has changed, categories have different dates, or the office has already requested additional information. We address the obstacle first, then continue the process.
If additional information is requested, the timeline is divided into stages: obtaining confirmation, preparing the file and applying to the police. We plan the exchange before the licence expires, where your current documents allow it.
RICS servicesWe calculate the cost after reviewing the document and request; additional applications are included only with your agreement.
Other costsCertificates from the issuing country, translation and delivery are included only where genuinely necessary.

Before work begins
Under Article 179, exchange is available to a foreign national with approved residence for at least 6 months or permanent residence and a valid national driving licence. Age, medical fitness and the absence of a driving ban are also considered. Temporary, probationary and international permits do not qualify under this procedure. We check your licence and proof of residence before arranging preparation.
When exchanging a valid national licence under Article 179 and meeting the specified conditions, driving and first-aid tests are not required. If the licence does not clearly show its categories or validity period, additional confirmation is needed.
Article 178 sets a limit of 12 months from the date a foreign national is approved for continuous temporary residence exceeding 6 months or permanent residence. This is not a general period starting from any entry into the country. The licence itself must remain valid. We check the date of your residence decision and licence expiry to plan the exchange before the permitted period ends.
Article 179 refers to an approved residence period of at least 6 months, not a mandatory six-month wait after the permit is issued. We check your residence decision and its dates, then prepare the application plan.
We handle preparation and coordination. You must attend the medical examination and any steps that require your personal participation. We identify those stages in advance and prepare you for them.
The foreign licence on which the Serbian licence is based is returned to the issuing country's authority through its diplomatic or consular mission. You cannot use both licences at the same time. If you drive daily, we plan the processing period in advance: proof of application does not itself replace a driving licence.
Contact us before it expires. We check whether the exchange can begin with your current documents, whether the foreign licence needs renewing first and how that affects the sequence.
