Where we begin
When to prepare for naturalisation
You have made Serbia part of your life and want to know when you can apply for citizenship. We will check not only permanent residence, but also the date your permanent place of residence was registered, your family basis and how to address your current citizenship. We will then prepare the application and provide the agreed case support.
You have permanent residence and are planning naturalisation
We will check the general procedure’s requirements and the necessary period of registered permanent residence. You will learn your eligibility date rather than receive a vague answer of “in a few years”.
Your spouse is a Serbian citizen
A separate procedure applies to a marriage of at least three years where permanent residence has already been granted. We will check this specific route without applying all the conditions of ordinary naturalisation to it.
Children or documents from different countries are involved
We will identify the requirements for each family member, consents and application sequence. We will cross-check names, dates and civil status records before submission.
Documents, timeframes and costs
Two common naturalisation routes
Conditions differ. We will first determine the applicable procedure, which affects the documents, the question of second citizenship and the application date.
01General procedure after permanent residence
For an adult applicant with legal capacity, permanent residence and at least three years of continuously registered permanent place of residence — prebivalište. Three years of temporary residence alone is not enough.
Main documents
Passport, permanent residence decision and proof of registered permanent place of residence
Birth certificate, marriage and name-change documents as applicable
Proof of release from foreign citizenship or the legally prescribed confirmation that release is possible
A declaration recognising Serbia as your state
Application process
Check the conditions and exact registration history
Determine the lawful sequence concerning your current citizenship
Agree the documents and prepare the application
Timeframes
Preparation depends mainly on foreign documents and the issue of release from citizenship. When the other conditions are met, the law allows a request for assurance of future admission, valid for 2 years, to arrange release.
RICS servicesFrom €450 for the agreed scope of application support.
Government feesThe fee for ordinary admission to citizenship is RSD 25,430. The general application fee is RSD 430 where applicable; we will check all payments before submission.
Other costsDocuments from the country of citizenship, translations, certifications and a separate release procedure depend on the circumstances. A passport is obtained separately after acquiring citizenship.
A separate procedure for a foreign national married to a Serbian citizen for at least three years and already holding permanent residence. The general procedure’s requirement to be released from foreign citizenship does not automatically apply here.
Main documents
The applicant’s passport and permanent residence decision
Marriage document and proof of the spouse’s Serbian citizenship
Civil status records required for your documents
A declaration recognising Serbia as your state
Application process
Check the duration of marriage and permanent residence
Cross-check Serbian and foreign family records
Prepare the application on the appropriate basis
Timeframes
The three years refer to the marriage; permanent residence must already be granted at submission. This is neither a promise of a decision after three years nor a requirement for another three years of marriage after permanent residence.
RICS servicesFrom €450; children’s participation and additional procedures will be included in an individual quote.
Government feesThe main admission fee is RSD 25,430. Applicable fees and the possibility of one family decision are checked according to the application’s composition.
Other costsTranslations, certifications, obtaining replacement certificates and arranging documents after the decision where needed.
Your case is more than a collection of separate certificates
Review the conditions against your documents
We will check permanent residence, prebivalište registration and family circumstances. You will receive a list of conditions met, obstacles and actions that move you towards submission.
Plan the steps concerning your current citizenship
We will determine whether release is required in your case, which evidence is needed and what to request first. We will not suggest starting an irreversible procedure without reviewing the basis.
Assemble a consistent case
We will compare the passport, birth, marriage, surname changes and Serbian records. We will help obtain missing documents, arrange translations through partners and prepare the application.
Support submission and follow-up requests
We will explain the actions you need to take personally, help with communication in Serbian and prepare additional documents. After the decision, we will outline the process for obtaining Serbian documents.

Sequence and timeframes
A plan from eligibility review to submission
01
Determine your procedure
We will establish the submission conditions from permanent residence, permanent address registration and family documents. We will examine current citizenship and children’s participation separately.
02
Create a document plan
We will allocate requests by country and authority. We will agree the price and timeframe of our preparation after checking what you already have.
03
Prepare the application
We will check names, dates, translations, declarations and payments. We will arrange submission support with the competent authority under the selected procedure.
04
Support processing and the next stage
We will help with case-related requests. Following a positive decision, we will explain citizenship registration and the subsequent identity card and passport procedures.
Eligibility to apply
General procedure: permanent residence and at least 3 years of continuously registered permanent place of residence. Family procedure: marriage to a Serbian citizen for at least 3 years and permanent residence already granted.
Preparing the documents
The timeframe depends on obtaining records abroad, correcting discrepancies, translations and release from citizenship if required. The plan will identify each document and who is responsible for it.
MUP processing
After submission, the case undergoes government checks. The decision date is separate from our preparation timeframe: we will record submission, help with requests and keep you informed of the next action.
Documents after the decision
Acquiring citizenship and issuing a passport are separate procedures. After the decision, the relevant registration steps must be completed and a passport obtained separately.
Your personal plan will show when you can apply, which documents to prepare and how to proceed through the next stages. Case preparation, government processing and passport issuance timeframes will be stated separately.
A clear scope of support
Support costs and government fees
Serbian citizenship by naturalisation
from 450 €
for support with a naturalisation application
Eligibility assessment, application preparation and agreed support. The price depends on document readiness, the chosen basis, family composition and additional procedures.
Main fee for ordinary admission to citizenship — RSD 25,430
General application fee at the applicable rate — RSD 430
Foreign documents, translations, certifications and consular actions are separate
Release from current citizenship, if required, and obtaining a passport after the decision are separate procedures
Government amounts were checked on 17 September 2026 and illustrate the cost structure rather than a universal family estimate. We will check concessions, combined family applications and exact payment slips before payment. Our agreed scope and price will be fixed in the contract.
Before work begins
Important points before applying for citizenship
Do three years of temporary residence already give the right to citizenship?
No. Temporary residence should not be confused with permanent residence and a registered permanent place of residence — prebivalište. We will check the dates and conditions relevant to your naturalisation procedure.
Must I first give up my current citizenship?
We first determine the basis and procedure. For ordinary naturalisation, the law provides for release or confirmation that it is possible, as well as exceptions. If the other conditions are met, assurance of future admission valid for 2 years may be requested to arrange release. The family basis has different rules.
Can a child be included?
Separate conditions apply to children, depending on their parents’ citizenship, residence and consents. A child over 14 must also consent to acquiring citizenship. We will check the child’s documents separately.
Why did people I know need different documents?
They may have had a different basis: marriage, descent, restoration of citizenship or special circumstances. We do not copy someone else’s case — we prepare documents for the legally relevant facts of yours.
What exactly will I get from the initial review?
The applicable procedure, a list of conditions met, missing documents and the sequence of actions. Then a support quote separating RICS’s price, government fees and external costs.
